Lounaistieto is a regional information service operating in Southwest Finland. We provide a free map service, data portal, statistical analysis and other services. Our services are designed especially for regional authorities and decision-makers, researchers, students, citizens, organisations and NGOs, media and business. Most of the data available is only in Finnish.
Lounaistieto is based on openness and cooperation. When information is shared, democracy and participation increase and public administration is made more efficient. We help regional actors to show public information as open data, which is the key to applications, business ideas and jobs.
Lounaistieto is funded by Regional Councils of Southwest Finland and Satakunta, University of Turku, City of Turku, Åbo Akademi University and Novia University of Applied Sciences. Lounaistieto has vivid cooperation also with other regional councils, municipalities, Finnish Environmental Institute, Turku Museum Centre, Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment in Southwest Finland and other organisations.
Lounaistieto is also part of Southwest Finland Partnership Forum which sparks and supports cooperation between regional actors. As part of this, we coordinate open data network together with City of Turku and Turku Science Park. At Lounaistieto we actively develop regional open data networks and GIS-cooperation, and participate in various regional and national projects.
